We have designed this program as a means to help educate the patient undergoing cancer treatment and to bridge the gap between the medical and dental communities. It has been our experience that patients receiving treatment for cancer not only have a need for practical information and resources but encouragement as well.

I have been a practicing hygienist for the last 45 years and have been interested in community service since my college days. I found that giving back through education was my preferred way to serve others. Working with people with disabilities in care homes was inspirational and challenging and I headed a program on oral care for 15 years. I also have worked on dental convention floors for the last 14 years offering my expertise as well as educating peers and other professional like diabetes educators and also the general public. Most recently I have been working with patients going through chemo and radiation treatments and I find this work very fulfilling. Giving back helps others and helps you in the process.

I always wanted to take care of people since I was a little girl. I received a degree in Psychology in Brasil where I was born but after traveling to this country and falling in love my degree had to be placed on hold. While introduced to Dental Hygiene I knew that this profession would lead me back to my dream as a little girl to take care of people. I have been a Dental Hygienist for 12 years and I am passionate about my job and patients. I hope that through my education I can offer the opportunity to patients that are going under cancer treatment to maintain their oral health and lessen their side effects so they can focus on overall healing.
